Drain Cleaning in Hawaii
One slow drain is usually local. Every drain slow at once usually points to the main line. Tell us which, and we will work to route your request to a plumber with the right equipment.
One drain versus the whole house
A single slow sink or tub is usually a clog in that fixture's branch line and is often cleared with a cable or snake.
Gurgling toilets, water backing up in a tub when you run the washer, or multiple slow drains point to the main drain line.
Repeated clogs in the same line can mean roots, a sag or a broken pipe. A camera inspection shows what is actually down there.
What not to pour down a drain
Grease and cooking oil, coffee grounds, flushable wipes (they are not truly flushable) and paper towels cause a large share of household clogs.
Chemical drain openers can damage older pipes and are hazardous if a plumber then has to work on the line. Ask before using them.
On a cesspool or septic system?
Cesspools and septic tanks must be regularly pumped by a registered pumper and hauler to prevent overflows and backups, according to the Hawaii Department of Health. Repeated backups can be a sign the system needs service rather than just a drain cleaning.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my whole house drain slowly?
When several fixtures are slow at once, the blockage is usually in the main drain or sewer line rather than in one fixture. If you are on a cesspool or septic system, it may also need pumping.
What is a camera inspection?
A small waterproof camera is fed into the drain line so the plumber can see roots, breaks or buildup and give you a specific recommendation.
